La mussola è un tessuto antichissimo ad armatura a tela molto fine e impalpabile, con una trama molto rada. Pare abbia origini mesopotamiche e che il suo nome derivi da Mossul, una città irachena. In realtà ci sono altre fonti che affermano che il nome mussola sia stato attribuito a questa stoffa per via dell’irregolarità della sua superficie, tanto da paragonarla ad una mousse. La mussola in cotone è un tessuto di cotone fresco e leggerissimo che si presta particolarmente per la creazione di abbigliamento per neonato, bambino ma anche per adulti.

COTTON MUSLIN
Muslin was introduced to Europe in the late 17th century, and it quickly gained popularity among the European aristocracy and elite classes.
In the 18th century, muslin gowns and dresses became fashionable, and the fabric was used extensively in clothing and interior decoration. During the Seventeenth century, in France, started the production of wool and silk muslin. Silk muslin is much more similar to organza, but it's more transparent and has a more structured hand.

Advantages of cotton muslin: lightweight, fresh, breathable, thin, soft, comfortable to wear, hypoallergenic, resistant (if washed properly), has an excellent drape
Disadvantages of cotton muslin: this fabric is not affordable, creases, and with time and washings the material tends to tear
COTTON MUSLIN USAGE
Cotton muslin has, on average, a weight of 50 to 90 grams per square meter. To be a muslin, the fabric has to have the weft threads thinner than warp threads. Cotton muslin can be dyed, printed and embroidered despite its delicate appearance. All cotton muslins are used for dressmaking, especially for the realization of fresh summer clothes, almost transparent. Its characteristics appearance and benefits makes cotton muslin ideal also for household linen and childcare items in general. HOW TO WASH COTTON MUSLIN FABRIC
As said previously, cotton muslin is a durable and resistant fabric, but you need to pay particular care and attention during the washing. In fact, this soft material ca be both hand and machine washed, in both cases at maximum 30°. You have the reduce the spin speed and, if hand-washed, do not squeeze then. Let them air dry away from direct sunlight, especially if the muslin is white. Do not use the tumble dryer as it makes this fabric rigid. Cotton muslin can be ironed, but if you want to obtain a better result, we recommend to iron it when it's still damp and not completely dried, with a piece of cotton cloth between the muslin and the iron.
