La prestigiosa storia del raso inizia in Cina, più precisamente nel periodo tra il 960 e 1127. Sotto la dinastia cinese Song, all'epoca veniva utilizzato soprattuto per l'abbigliamento e arredamento delle nobiltà imperiali. Nel Medioevo, arrivò in Occidente lungo la via della seta e da quel momento, abbiamo assistito all'ascesa di questo tessuto, diventato uno dei più utilizzati nella realizzazione di capi di abbigliamento e non solo.

Its original name comes to the Italian verb radere and the name raso which mean smooth and even. The term satin comes from Zaitun, the ancient Zhangzhou where, maybe, silk was discovered end produced. Its weave is characterized. Its reverse and obverse are strongly different: a smooth and silky, so shiny and extremely soft to the touch. Satin always warp-faced and made of shiny filament yarns with very low twist to produce a lustrous finish. It has always been considered one of the most beautiful and practical fabrics in dressmaking. Back in time, all satin fabrics where made of silk and had different names such as duchess, merveilleux ecc. The same type of weave was then applied to other types of fabric. TYPES OF SATIN
Sateen - cotton fabric with a 5 weave, mid weight, pretty smooth.
Damask - has satin in tis weave.
Brocade - these fabrics are shuttle-woven and their weaves are called also brocade
Lampas - ancient fabric, known and appreciated back in time. It was mainly made of silk and enriched with gold and silver weaves. Heavy and compact, it was ideal for tapestry.
