KNIT RIBBING FABRIC
Ribbing is a soft, thin and lightweight material obtained from organic or synthetic fibers. Thanks to its elasticity and versatility, it is possible to create garments without seams or hems, which is why it is one of the most used materials, especially among sewing beginners. Ribbing jersey can be worn every seasons, but especially during summer time thanks to its breathability. Cotton ribbing can be either used to hand sew summer pieces and even accessories for hot seasons, while polyester jersey is ideal for autumn and winter. Another advantage of this material, is that it is very easy to work with it, even for sewing beginners. These kind of fabrics can be sewn with the sewing machine, or hand sewn with extreme care, in order to do not miss its elasticity. Talking about its composition, it can be made of cotton jersey or with a percentage of polyester. Years ago, this type of fabric wasn't used as it is today in dressmaking. Fortunately it was enhanced and launched in fashion by the iconic Coco Chanel.
