MICROSUEDE FABRIC DESCRIPTION
This incredible material is obtained through patented chemical processes during the production. Alcantara is composed of 68 % polyester and 32 % polyurethane, which make the material stain resistant, durable and at the same time extra soft. The manufacturing process, as well as the exact materials involved in its production, are kept secret by the Italian company Alcantara Spa. This textile, in addition to water repellency and breathability, is ideal for printing, embroidering, embossing and much more. If you want to wash or clean this unique material, you'll need to follow some recommendations because of its delicacy. If hand washed, we recommend to rub it gently with water and neutral detergents, but you can also machine was it at 30°. Then, let it ari dry and brush it gently. In 1970s, the Japanese researcher Miyoshi Okamoto patented for the first time this fabric as an upholstery material. Then, in the 80s, the company was officially named Alcantara spa. The law firm is located in Milan, while the operative one is in province of Terni.
Microsuede Advantages: resistant, soft to the touch, available in many different colors, can be treated to be fire-retardant
Microsuede Disadvantages: it is not an affordable material, requires particular attention during cleaning and washing, it's difficult to clean.
HOW TO CLEAN MICROSUEDE
If you want to keep this fabric perfectly clean, this is what you need:
- a brush with soft bristels;
- a cloth or a vacuum cleaner;
- white cotton cloth
- ironing board
- neutral detergent
- if needed, a lemon and 90° alcol
In case you want to upholster your sofas or buy a car with alcantara interiors, you'll have to clean it frequently, to avoid dust and maintain the colors vibrant. When you're cleaning alcantara always keep in mind to rub it gently, without using steam which could damage the fabric. For your daily maintenance, we recommend to use a brush with very soft bristels, a cloth or you vacuum cleaner for a superficial cleaning. Delicacy is fundamental. When the dust is removed, we recommend to use the white damp cloth. If there are stains on the fabric, these can be cleaned from the outside to the inside, to avoid to spread them. Never pour the cleansing product directly on microsuede because it can damage the fabric permanently. In case of stubborn stains, you can try to use lemon juice by dabbing it with a cloth. If lemon juice fails, you can try with alcool at 90°, rubbing it from the inside to the outside.
PLEASE NOTE*: if the cover is removable, you can wash microsuede the machine at maximum 30° with neutral detergents. For an additional safety, we always recommend to hand-wash this material in cold water with neutral detergent. Once washed, microsuede needs to be air dried, away from direct sunlight and brushed gently. If you have to, this fabric can be ironed by placing a piece of cotton cloth between the iron and the material.
